A Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) joint venture has won a $1,167,800,000 U.S. Air Force contract to provide launch capability for two rockets, the Defense Department announced Friday.

United Launch Alliance‘s services subsidiary, United Launch Services, will perform contract work on the Delta IV and Atlas V rockets in Littleton, Colo. through Sept. 30, 2013.

According to ULA, Delta IV vehicles carry payloads into orbit for the Air Force, National Reconnaissance Office, NASA and commercial customers.

Atlas V vehicles have launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. and Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. since debuting in August 2002.

ULA recently carried an NRO payload from Cape Canaveral during one of the nearly 50 Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle missions the joint venture has helped carry out.
